Yep, loads and loads and loads.
We started off using whatever spare change we had organising Big Arks. These ranged from giving out buns in Dublin, to helping a family bring home their turf from the bog in the West of Ireland, to repainting an orphanage in Zambia. We also did stuff with no money, such as selling"Deluxe Hugs" for a euro and using the money to bring a homeless man out for a meal. Lots of fun / humiliating public embarrassment.
Now we're getting a bit more grown up and specific with how we spend out money. Arking is great but the random side means that it's harder to create a tangible difference and achieve our mission of changing society from I to We. We want to leave the Arking as an individual expression, and use the money we make in a targeted way so that we can create sustainable social change. We started by giving 10,000 of an advertising fund we won in a start up competition to launch a donation campaign for Haven's Haiti Earthquake appeal. This was our way of responding in whatever way we could despite being a start up. Out first big project that relates to our mission of ending the disconnect is an upcoming schools initiative where we empower kids to see the change they can bring to their local communities. More on this soon. Watch this kids sized space!
